“I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad” - Deepti Sharma after winning the POTT award

Indian veteran all-rounder Deepti Sharma has dedicated the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 victory to her mother and father. Interestingly, she was adjudged the player of the tournament for her 215 runs with the willow and 22 wickets with the ball in hand.

For the unversed, the Indian women’s team defeated the South African women’s team by 52 runs in the grand finale on Sunday, November 2, in Navi Mumbai. Also, she emerged as the first cricketer to score a fifty and scalp five wickets in a World Cup knockout game, including Men's and Women's.

“Honestly, we still can't believe this result. It feels like a dream. But very happy I could contribute like this today. We always try to take away positives from the match. Also have to thank the fans, they came in huge numbers today, because they support us in every game. Without them, it wouldn't be possible, thanks to them,” Deepti said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I think Laura played a very good inning, honestly. But we were not relaxed anywhere. We were very calm. We were always cheering each other up, whenever there was a drinks break. And as a bowling unit, we were talking that we have to go till the last ball. And we have to focus more on our best ball. And we did the same thing,” she added.

Deepti, while batting at No.5 in the grand finale, smacked a crucial 58-run knock in 58 balls with three fours and a six at a strike rate of 100. Later in the second innings, she pocketed a match-winning five-wicket haul to turn the game upside down.

“There have been a lot of changes since 2017. And I would like to say if we play more number of matches from now on, it will be good. And finally I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad,” she concluded.
