ECB announces strong England Women’s T20I squad for India series

On Friday, June 13, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a strong 14-member squad for their upcoming five-match T20I series against India Women, scheduled to start on June 28.

In an interesting turn of events, the star spinner Sophie Ecclestone is all set to make a comeback after taking a break from the game. This news meant that the leggie Sarah Glenn has to miss the series.

Moreover, the former England skipper Heather Knight has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury, with Lauren Filer taking over her spot in the squad. The rest of the squad remains the same from their most recent West Indies series.

Right after the T20I squad selection, England Women’s team head coach Charlotte Edwards was elated to have Ecclestone back in the squad as her experience would help the team excel ahead of the T20 World Cup next year.

"We're really looking forward to taking on India. They're one of the best sides in the world and it'll be a huge test for us. Five games against India in front of big crowds at great venues will serve us really well. This is a significant series for us with the countdown well and truly underway towards the home ICC Women's T20 World Cup,” Charlotte Edwards said.

"It's great to have Soph back, and we're looking forward to having her back in the group. She has obvious qualities and she'll be an asset to us. It does mean Sarah Glenn misses out, we are blessed with a strong group of spinners and we unfortunately can't play them all,” she added.
