The seasoned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh was doubtful for the second Test match against India, which was scheduled to take place at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium. Notably, it was later announced that he would be involved in the fight despite reports that he had suffered a finger injury. Shakib declared that he would be retiring from the longest format of the game prior to the Kanpur match.

In front of his hometown supporters in Mirpur, Shakib disclosed that he had declared his intention to retire from the longest format. But in the event that the wish is not granted, the match against India will be his last Test match. According to PTI, Shakib stated, "I have expressed my desire to play my last Test in Mirpur; if that won't happen, my second Test against India would be my last."

Shakib Al Hasan announces retirement:

Bangladesh will play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against India following the Kanpur Test, and then the tour will conclude on October 12 with the series' last T20I. After that, they have three ODIs, three T20Is, and two Tests scheduled in the West Indies. Because of the political unrest in Bangladesh, South Africa was hesitant to travel there, but Shakib's announcement of his retirement also revealed the possible itinerary for one of the tour's games.

At the age of 20, Shakib Al Hasan played his first Test match against India in 2007. He became the sixth player to achieve the rare feat of scoring 4,000 runs and taking 200 wickets in a Test match against Pakistan in December 2021, when he batted in the second innings and amassed 63 runs. He became the oldest cricketer from Bangladesh to play in a Test match on September 19, at the age of 37, during the opening Test match against India in Chennai.
