Following a hand injury that kept the star spinner off the field for the majority of the day's play, former England cricketer and current batting coach Marcus Trescothick has stated that Shoaib Bashir is fit to bowl and will come on when needed. On Day 3 of the Lord's Test, Shoaib Bashir hurt his hand while attempting to make a difficult catch that would have allowed England to eliminate Ravindra Jadeja at a critical point in India's opening innings.

As Joe Root finished the over, the off-spinner had to leave the field to receive medical assistance. On Day 3, Bashir did not go back to bowl. In the last session of Day 4 of India's second innings, England bowled 17.4 overs, although Bashir was not utilised. Marcus Trescothick, England's batting coach, provided a vital update on Bashir's health, though, confirming that the 21-year-old may bowl on Day 5.

Shoaib Bashir Injury Update:

Before the batters faltered to 58/4 at stumps on the fourth day, chasing 193 on a deteriorating surface, Washington Sundar put India in the best possible position to win the Lord's Test with a four-wicket haul. The coach, while at the post-match press conference, said, “We always wanted 250-plus. In the first innings, it was hard to judge what a decent score would be. We have something to push on for tomorrow. Bashir is fit to bowl. He can come on when he is needed."

Crucially, the ECB had already communicated in the early hours of Day 4 that Bashir was available to bowl as well as bat if needed. On Day 5, England has six wickets remaining, while India needs 135 runs. Following the pacers' excellent performance, Washington's off-spin made the ball talk, and his blows allowed India to defeat England by 192 in the last session. With six wickets separating England from a historic victory over India and 135 runs still needed by India, Trescothick stated that the tone can shift in the opening exchanges.
