The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will host the next three World Test Championship (WTC) finals. During the ICC Annual Conference 2025, the hosting rights for the upcoming finals were awarded to the ECB, which has already successfully hosted the last three WTC title matches — in 2021, 2023, and 2025.
The decision was made this week during the conference held in Singapore, where, considering England's successful track record of organising the previous three finals, the ICC confirmed that the 2027, 2029, and 2031 WTC finals will also take place in England.
So far, three different venues have been used in the three completed finals. The most recent was Lord’s, which hosted the 2025 final between Australia and South Africa.
South Africa won their first WTC title by defeating Australia by five wickets, with Aiden Markram starring in the victory. He scored a magnificent century and also took two wickets with the ball, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Australia, who were eyeing back-to-back titles, missed their chance despite being the defending champions. In the 2023 final at The Oval, they had beaten India by a huge margin of 209 runs, with Travis Head named Player of the Match for a brilliant innings that turned the tide when Australia were under pressure in their first innings.
India played in both the 2021 and 2023 finals but failed to lift the trophy on either occasion. In the inaugural 2021 final, hosted at Southampton, New Zealand defeated them by eight wickets. Kyle Jamieson was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
In the 2023–2025 WTC cycle, India were among the front-runners for much of the campaign. However, a shocking home series loss to New Zealand, followed by a series defeat in Australia, ended their hopes of reaching a third consecutive final.
Now, attention turns to which venues in England will host the finals in 2027, 2029, and 2031. Despite hosting all previous finals, England themselves have yet to qualify for a WTC final. With the next three set to be played on home soil, Ben Stokes and co. will surely have added motivation to secure a spot and play in front of their own fans.
