The former South African pacer and commentator Dale Steyn has predicted the scoreline of 3-2 in England’s favor ahead of India’s upcoming tour for England, scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.
Notably, the upcoming five-match Test series is set to be a part of the new World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. Steyn reckons that there would be no match without a result and added that we might witness a few matches being close affairs.
“All games will be close. But all will have a result. I think it will be 3-2 in favour of England. There will be a result in every Test match. There will be no runaway win for any team, all five games will be very close,” Steyn said on JioHotstar.
It’s important to note that England secured victories in 15 out of 20 games played at home under the head coach Brendon McCullum with their aggressive Bazball approach. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not part of the England tour, it would be interesting to watch India’s approach.
With the veteran duo bidding adieu to the longest format of the game, the BCCI selection committee has announced Shubman Gill as the new Test captain, with Rishabh Pant being his deputy for the five-match overseas tour.
India’s Test squad for the five-match Test tour vs England: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rishabh Pant (vc & wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
England Test squad for the first Test vs India: Ben Stokes (Captain), Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes.
