Former Indian legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar has opened up on the scoreline of the five-match Test series between England and India, scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.
Sachin, while predicting his scoreline, stated that he would go with India winning the Test series 3-1 with one game ending in a draw. Notably, the Shubman Gil-led Indian side will be without the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravi Ashwin.
"I have settled for 3-1 to India. There were multiple good performances by individuals (About the 2007 England series)… Zaheer (Khan) played a role. I think everyone coming together and then chipping in at the right time makes a big difference. I still remember we were in the dressing room, celebrating at The Oval, the last Test,” Sachin Tendulkar told ESPNCricinfo.
"These kinds of moments stay with you forever. We're still talking about it 18 years down the line. I hope we're able to do something with this series too, so 20 years down the line we can still talk about it,” he added.
Furthermore, the Master Blaster has also given his piece of advice to the Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who needs to curb his game in the interests of the team. Sachin reckoned that Pant needs to adapt the defensive approach whenever required in the game.
"He [Pant] should back his instincts most of the time. But there'll be situations where he'll have to curb his game in the interests of the team. I know that whatever he does the rest of the time will also be in the interest of the team, but the approach might have to be different. He has to have that flexibility in his mind. If there are times when you're looking to save the game, then he may have to adapt that defensive approach, for let's say an hour or 45 minutes or sometimes two hours, where he'll have to just take those risky shots out of the game and not be as aggressive. He could be positive, but the shot selection will come into play,” he stated.
India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana.
