Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has reckoned that Bangladesh, led by Liton Das, would perform comparatively well against the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side on Wednesday, September 24, in Dubai.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra has stated that Bangladesh was once on the brink of elimination from the Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the group stage. However, after they defeated Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash, they have ignited their hopes for the grand finale.
"Bangladesh is competitive, and their fans are passionate, and I think they deserve better, given the passion. They didn’t perform as well and were on the brink of elimination but have reached here. Bangladesh also won their previous game, so the expectation is they should perform well against India," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Speaking about the head-to-head record in the shortest format of the game, India boasts an exceptional 18-1 lead in T20Is against Bangladesh, while their only loss came in 2019.
On the other hand, Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons felt that his team could defeat Team India when the two sides face each other in the Super Four clash on Wednesday. While India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in their first Super Four clash, Bangladesh also bagged a four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their first Super Four clash.
“Every team has the ability to beat India. The game is played on the day. It’s not what India has done before. It’s what happens on Wednesday. It’s what happens during that three and a half hour period. We will try to play as best as we can and hope to find chinks in India’s armoury. That’s the way we win games,” Phil Simmons told reporters in the pre-match press conference.
“Every game, especially games involving India, has hype because they’re the number one T20 team in the world. There must be a hype. We’re just going to ride on the hype. We’re going to enjoy the moment and enjoy the game,” he said.
