Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, September 4, has opened up on the upcoming India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign on Sunday, September 14, in Dubai.

Speaking exclusively on ANI, Mishra has quoted an example of India Legends, led by Yuvraj Singh, not taking part against Pakistan Legends in the league stage and semi-finals in the recently concluded World Championship of Legends 2025 campaign.

However, Amit Mishra also asserted that every Indian cricketer is connected to their country and their fans. He later added that whatever decision is taken, it will be in the interest of the country.

"Look, when we are playing cricket for India, our countrymen are connected to us as their emotions are connected to us. Even the India legends said that they won't play. Then Pakistan reached the finals and lost the title. Every cricketer is connected to their county. They are connected to their fans. Just like everyone loves their country, we also love our country, and whatever decision will be taken, it will be in the interest of the country," Mishra said as quoted by ANI.

Notably, former cricketers like Manoj Tiwary also voiced out their opinions on India playing against Pakistan in the showpiece event. Most recently, the Indian government has revealed its stance on the sporting relations with Pakistan, stating that while bilateral series remain suspended, India can face Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup and ICC events.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that while the Indian athletes can take part in global events featuring Pakistan, and vice versa, no bilateral tours will take place.
