Former Indian cricketer and analyst Kris Srikkanth has stated the reason behind Abhimanyu Easwaran’s exclusion from the Indian Test squad for the two-match West Indies series, starting on October 2 in Ahmedabad.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth asserted that Easwaran’s father came up with strong comments against the selectors, which didn’t go down well with them, and that could be the reason behind his exclusion from the forthcoming series.
Interestingly, Easwaran received his maiden call-up way back in 2022 in the longest format of the game. However, he is yet to make his Test debut and 15 Indian players have received their debut gaps during this period.
"I feel bad for Abhimanyu Easwaran. I think his father made some strong statements (after England) and maybe that's why they've dropped him now. But Ajit Agarkar's reasoning on not needing a reserve opener at home was fair,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, he also talked about Karun Nair’s exclusion and the way the Indian top-order batter reacted to his exclusion. Moreover, Srikkanth also talked about the inclusion of the batting all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.
"Karun Nair has spoke his mind out after the squad announcement about scoring a half century in the final Test in England. But the truth is Karun Nair did not do well in England. In all fairness, nothing wrong in dropping him,” he added.
"I am very surprised that Nitish Kumar Reddy is still in the team. Not sure if he's going to play as the allrounder. Because he got that hundred in Australia, he is probably sticking on. Apart from these, there are no surprises. Though I am not sure how Devdutt Padikkal got back into the squad. Not sure who he has come in for, maybe Karun Nair," he concluded.
