The 27-year-old son of critic Anupama Chopra and celebrated Bollywood director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Agni Dev Chopra, was rumored to have entered the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 player auction.

According to reports, Agni, a US passport holder who was born in Detroit, agreed to come on as an overseas associate player for the US at a reasonable base payment of PKR 600,000 (about ₹1.9 lakh or $2,100). His name appeared in the Pakistan Cricket Board's PSL auction list.

Agni Dev Chopra’s name appears on the PCB website on the list of players signed up for the PSL 2026 auction.

Due to the complicated political and athletic relations between India and Pakistan, the news spread swiftly, sparking heated discussion and, in some places, online abuse of the Chopra family.

There were rumors that Agni Chopra, a cricket player registered in the United States, was one of the overseas players up for grabs at the PSL Season 11 auction. He was classified as a United States citizen (born in Detroit) on the document that was made public online.

According to reports, his base price was set at PKR 600,000, or roughly INR 1.9 lakh. He was classified as an associate player from abroad.

Agni Dev Chopra has played in the Ranji Trophy in India. He became the first player to score hundreds in each of his first four first-class games while playing for Mizoram. With 939 runs at the end of the 2023–24 season, he was awarded the coveted Madhavrao Scindia Award.

The BCCI changed the regulations in 2025 to mandate that domestic cricket players possess an Indian passport. Agni shifted his attention to the US, as he had an American passport.

He currently plays Major League Cricket in the United States for MI New York, a team owned by the Reliance Group of India.

Agni Dev Chopra sets the record straight about his entry into the PSL 2026 auction list.

Despite all allegations and accusations, Agni Dev Chopra stepped forward to set the record straight. Agni Chopra took to Instagram to respond to the "fake and misleading reports," vehemently denying any connection to the league. His mother, Anupama Chopra, later emphasized his remarks.

"Fake and misleading reports are being circulated in my name regarding a tournament. I would like to clarify that I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals. I request everyone not to fall prey to misinformation," Agni Dev wrote on his Instagram story.

Refusing to let the controversy subside, supporters took to social media to post images of the PSL website and inquire as to why "Agni Chopra" was included in the list of players who had signed up for the auction.

Whether this was an unauthorized registration or an administrative blunder is yet unknown. Some even suggested that if Agni hadn't registered for the sale, he should sue PSL.
