Team India skipper Shubman Gill’s father’s reply to fans about his son’s wedding plans has gone viral. On the first day of the ongoing Eden Gardens Test between India and South Africa, Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Singh, was spotted in the stands. A video then surfaced in which a fan asked him about the India captain’s wedding plans—specifically whether Gill is getting married to Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The fan asked, “Uncle Ji, Gill bhai ka shaadi kab karwa rahe ho?” (Hello Uncle, when are you getting our brother Shubman married?) and “Sara madam se karwa rahe ho ki nahi?” (Are you getting him married to Sara madam or not?)

In reply, Gill’s father smiled and said there is no pressure from the family regarding his son’s wedding, insisting that the decision lies completely with Gill. Rumours linking Gill and Sara have been around for years, but there has been no official confirmation from either side.

“Pitch looks like it'll assist seamers at the start.” - Gill after losing the toss

This viral reaction from Gill’s father has once again reignited the rumours during the ongoing Test match. Speaking of the match, India had a dominant display on the opening day at Eden Gardens. Gill lost yet another toss as South Africa opted to bat first, but the skipper handled his bowlers well as the visitors were bundled out for 159. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with a five-wicket haul, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two each, and Axar Patel claimed one.

In reply, India ended the day at 37/1, with KL Rahul and Washington Sundar unbeaten. Despite losing the toss, Gill seemed to assess the pitch perfectly. He had said that early on, seamers would get assistance—and India’s pacers proved him right.

“Pitch looks like it'll assist seamers at the start. Dressing room is amazing, this Test team is hungry. These two home series are very crucial. Pitch should be good for the first day or two, then turn will come in,” he said. Bumrah and Siraj combined for seven wickets and rattled Temba Bavuma’s batting lineup.
