Jasprit Bumrah opens up on his injury

Indian skipper for the SCG Test, Jasprit Bumrah has stated that he felt the need to respect his body after he slightly felt discomfort in the second innings. Notably, Bumrah went for scans on Day 2 of the Test after suffering a back spasm. He wasn't available to bowl in the fourth innings.

India went on to lose the SCG Test by six wickets and furthermore the series by 1-3. With this defeat, India’s hopes of qualifying for the WTC final got washed out.

“Little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, you can’t fight your body. Disappointing, probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series. Felt a bit of discomfort during my second spell in the first innings," Bumrah said after the conclusion of the SCG match.

Bumrah scalped a total of 32 wickets in the series to end as the leading wicket-taker and emerged as the player of the series. He further stated it is important to adapt to the situations and play accordingly in the future. 

“Lots of ifs and buts, the whole series was fought hard, we were in the game today as well, not like we were out of it, this is how Test cricket goes. Being in the game for longer, creating pressure, absorbing pressure, and playing to the situation are all important. You have to adapt to the situations and these learnings will help us in the future," he added.

Bumrah concluded by stating that a lot of youngsters stepped up in the series with their performances but they are disappointed not to end on the winning side. He went on to congratulate the hosts for their exceptional gameplay throughout thes

“They’ve (youngsters) gained a lot of experience, they’ll go from strength to strength. We’ve shown that we have a lot of talent in our group. A lot of the youngsters are keen, they’re disappointed that we haven’t won but they’ll take learnings from this experience. It was a great series, congratulations to Australia, they fought really well,” Bumrah concluded.
