Former Indian cricketer reveals Team India’s main batter on England tour

Former Indian batter WV Raman has opened up on Indian experienced batter KL Rahul’s batting position in the upcoming England tour, scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds in the new WTC cycle.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announcing their retirements from the longest format of the game, there are a lot of vacancies in the Indian batting order ahead of the five-match Test series against England.

Rahul, who is known for moving up and down in the batting order, scored 116 and 51 runs fro India A against England Lions in the second unofficial Test in Northamption as an opening batter alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

"KL Rahul will obviously need to step it up because he's the most experienced of the lot, and he's also been around for a long time. He's got the temperament and he's performed well in all the three formats for India in the past. So, there'll be a lot of expectations as far as KL Rahul is concerned,” said Raman to IANS in an exclusive interaction organised by Sony Sports Network.

Raman stated that despite Rahul moving up and down in the batting order, he keeps scoring runs consistently without complaining. Furthermore, he asserted that the Indian think-tank team should come up with the best possible combination for the five-match series.

"It is going to be very interesting as to where he's likely to be slotted right through the series, because we've seen KL Rahul going up and down the order in almost just about every format. The beauty of it is that he keeps getting runs as well,” he added.

"But I think they (Indian team think-tank) need to try and have a very clear idea of who's going to be batting where right through the series, because in a five-match series, you'll have the opportunity of sussing things out and also trying to zoom in on the best possible combination that you could play for the later half of the series where things really hot up," he observed.
