“I think that will be the biggest challenge” - Former keeper reveals India’s biggest challenge against Pakistan

Former keeper identifies Pakistan's mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed as "biggest challenge" for Team India in T20 World Cup 2026 IND vs PAK clash, citing his unorthodox googly variations troubling Rohit Sharma and SKY on turning Premadasa pitch where spin claims 65% wickets historically.

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Deep Dasgupta has shared his views on the India vs Pakistan clash in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, scheduled on Sunday, February 15, in Colombo.

Speaking to JioHotstar, the former keeper-batter asserted that there were no high-scoring matches seen, indicating the surfaces are currently assisting bowlers in the ongoing showpiece event.

"I think that will be the biggest challenge. If we talk about the last two years, we have been playing on different pitches, and in the first two matches of this T20 World Cup, we saw that the pitches are slightly in favor of bowlers. We haven't seen the high-scoring matches we were expecting. It's been low-scoring in Colombo as well thus far," Deep Dasgupta told JioHotstar.

Furthermore, he also stressed that Pakistan playing five spinners in their line-up would be an interesting aspect to watch out for in the marquee clash. However, he stressed that Pakistan doesn’t have a proper depth in their batting line-up.

"Adaptability is the keyword when we play in Colombo against Pakistan, where they played five spinners in the last match, and we are expecting that five will be there in the match on the 15th as well. Who was the most successful bowler in the last game? Erasmus, off-spinner, four wickets, among which three were left-handers. So those things remain in the mind for sure," he added.

"We are obviously talking about them having five spinners and how we would play. If we look at it from the other side, bowlers start from No. 5 there. Mohammad Nawaz will come at No. 5. Babar Azam is at No. 4. So it's not like they have a lot of depth, especially in the T20 format," he noted.

"No matter which three spinners we play, they have so much quality that quantity is not required. I feel three spinners are good enough. However, that one question will be there in batting. They might have to reconsider the tempo at which the Indian team has played in the last two years," he concluded.
