Glenn McGrath gives a piece of advice to Jasprit Bumrah to prolong his career

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has stated that Jasprit Bumrah needs to be a bit smart, as he is not getting any younger. Notably, the Indian pacer spearhead has missed out on England T20I, ODI series, and the subsequent ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower back injury.

It’s important to note that Bumrah has been getting injured on a regular basis since the beginning of his career in 2016. Moreover, he is also likely to miss a few initial games for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.

McGrath is of the opinion that Bumrah puts a lot more pressure on his body compared to other pacers. Moreover, the former pacer also shared his views on the importance of an off-field routine for his quick recovery.

“He puts more stress on his body than the other bowlers. He has found ways to manage it, but unfortunately not all the time. He has done it before (making a comeback from injury), he will know better than anyone (about) the recovery time, the time in the gym. He is not as young as he used to be, so he has to be smarter about what he does,” McGrath told Times of India.

“He has to work even harder off the field. Being a fast bowler is like driving a car. If you do not top it up with fuel, you are going to run out of fuel sooner or later. My fuel tank was bigger than Jasprit because I did not bowl as quickly as him. These guys know how they work at their best. If India is under the pump, they need him,” he added.

It’s worth noting that Team India would require Jasprit Bumrah on the England tour as Men In Blue will play a Test series away from home just after the completion of the Indian Premier League.
