Glenn McGrath picks his top 5 Indian ODI batters of all time, makes some shocking rankings

Legendary Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath revealed his startling choices for the top five Indian ODI batters of all time. Everyone was taken aback when McGrath named Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as his top two picks, excluding "Master Blaster" Sachin Tendulkar. To everyone's astonishment, McGrath listed two specific middle-order batting idols and left out Virender Sehwag from his list.

Glenn McGrath outlined his top choices for the greatest Indian ODI hitters of all time on the "Fast Bowling Cartel" YouTube channel. Virat Kohli was ranked first on McGrath's list of the greatest five Indian ODI batters of all time, followed by Rohit, Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh.

Glenn McGrath listed his five all-time favourite Indian ODI batsmen on The Fast Bowling Cartel podcast, where he was joined by fellow former Australian pacers Jason Gillespie and Damien Fleming. McGrath explained why he chose the renowned opening batsman Rohit Sharma at number two and Virat Kohli at number one.

Speaking about Rohit, McGrath said, “My No. 2 (is) Rohit Sharma. His stats in one-day cricket and the way he played the game (is) unbelievable. Three double hundreds and the highest score of 264 is just unheard of. Unbelievable. 276 matches over 11,000 runs. Probably a little bit unfortunately earmarked as a one-day specialist, his stats at Test cricket should have been better because he was a class player. I would put him at No. 2, and at No. 1, it’s hard to go past Virat Kohli."

McGrath had previously implied that the two batters' poor performance was caused by their limited playing time. The 55-year-old former pacer observed that the two seasoned players "assaulted" the Australian bowlers to get over their early rust and lack of rhythm after they got back to their best in the third ODI in Sydney. Additionally, their performance provided reassurance for India's preparations for the 2027 World Cup.
