Glenn McGrath picks India’s top 5 ODI batters of all-time; leaves out Virender Sehwag

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has revealed the list of his top 5 Indian ODI batters of all-time. Interestingly, McGrath didn’t opt for the former opening batter, Virender Sehwag, in his list. 

Speaking about his picks, McGrath has included Virat Kohli at the top spot, followed it by Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh. Interestingly, the former pacer went ahead with Rohit ahead of Tendulkar, surprising many.

While Rohit Sharma, who made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2007, has played a total of 276 ODIs, amassing a total of 11,370 runs, Tendulkar ended his ODI career with 18,426 runs in 463 matches. 

“My No. 2 (is) Rohit Sharma. His stats in one-day cricket and the way he played the game (is) unbelievable. Three double hundreds and the highest score of 264 is just unheard of. Unbelievable. 276 matches over 11,000 runs. Probably a little bit unfortunately earmarked as a one-day specialist, his stats at Test cricket should have been better because he was a class player. I would put him at No. 2, and at No. 1, it’s hard to go past Virat Kohli,” McGrath said on the YouTube channel Fast Bowling Cartel.

“You look at the runs he scored, the average, and the strike rate – unbelievable. We saw that the other night," he added.

Furthermore, the Indian opening batter Rohit Sharma has an exceptional record against Australia both at home and away. For the unversed, he scored his first-ever ODI double ton of 209 runs against Australia at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2013 and also smacked five ODI tons against them in Australia.

In the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia Down Under, Rohit had scores of 8, 73, and 121* to finish as the leading run getter and win the Player Of The Series award.
