Harshit Rana released from the Indian squad for second Test vs England

Indian pacer Harshit Rana has been released by the Indian think team ahead of the second Test against England, scheduled to take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting on Wednesday, July 2.

According to the reports published in PTI, Harshit Rana was added to the Indian Test squad ahead of the opening Test as a cover to a few players who are carrying niggles. However, the Indian team management didn’t reveal the players who were carrying niggles.

Ahead of the start of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India’s 19th player's inclusion in the squad caught the limelight among many. Notably, Rana couldn’t create a major impact for India A against England Lions, scalping only one wicket.

"Harshit Rana has been released from the squad. He hasn't travelled with the Indian team to Birmingham for the second Test starting July 2," PTI quoted a BCCI source as saying.

Furthermore, the Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir also asserted that the call on Harshit Rana will be taken after speaking with the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar. The player, who was earlier in question with injury, has recovered now.

Gambhir confirmed after the defeat in the Leeds Test that Harshit might have to return home. He explained that Harshit was brought in due to a minor injury concern within the squad. However, the player in question recovered in time, rendering Harshit's inclusion unnecessary.

While the Team India squad has pacers like Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh, they went ahead with the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in the opening Test’s playing XI.

India’s squad for the second Test vs England: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
