“He is everything we expected him to be” - RCB Director of Cricket hails Rajat Patidar as captain

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, has come out praising Rajat Patidar’s captaincy style in the ongoing IPL 2025 season after his team registered two consecutive wins to top the points table.

Notably, Rajat Patidar took over the captaincy reins from Faf du Plessis, who captained the franchise in the last season. Patidar has been excellent both as a captain and as a batter so far in the two games of the campaign.

Bobat hailed Patidar for his impressive batting in the game against CSK at Chepuk, which RCB won by 50 runs. He scored 51 runs off 32 balls with four fours and three sixes as his team posted a dominating total on a sluggish wicket.

"It's been pretty good. The main thing you want to see from any leader or captain is that they continue to let their personality come across and I think he's done that really well. We don't want him to become a captain and be somebody else. We want him to be himself, very calm inwardly and outwardly,” Bobat said in the pre-match press conference.

“He rarely, if ever, takes a backward step and we've seen that with his batting, particularly against CSK. Every time we lost wickets, he continued to throw punches, and he seems to have coped with all the other stuff that comes with captaincy as well because it's a busy time,” Bobat said.

“At the minute, I think he's been excellent. He's been everything I hoped and expected him to be. We know it's early days, there's a lot of cricket left to be played and when we get through the busy part of the schedule and the fixtures come thick and fast and no doubt we'll have some challenges at some point in the season. That will be a time where we've really got to be there to support him. But at the minute, he's been very impressive,” Bobat stated.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will next take on the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 14th match of the IPL 2025 season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 2.
