Here is why West Indies team is still stuck in India despite exit from T20 World Cup 2026?

Following their elimination from the Super 8 stage of the current ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the West Indies cricket team's return from India has been postponed due to airspace limitations brought on by security concerns in the Gulf Region.

Sanju Samson's outstanding 97 not out at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata eliminated the Windies from the competition. With contributions from Roston Chase (40), Shai Hope (32), Shimron Hetmyer (27), and an undefeated 76-run stand between Jason Holder (37*) and Rovman Powell (34*), the West Indies Cricket team scored a tough 195/4 in their final game.

Jasprit Bumrah was India's standout player, scoring 2/36 in his four overs. With an undefeated 97 off 50 balls from Sanju Samson, India easily chased down the goal. Tilak Varma (27 off 15) and Suryakumar Yadav (18 off 16) backed him as the hosts easily won by five wickets.

Due to international aviation restrictions brought on by the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, the West Indies cricket team's departure from India following its elimination from the T20 World Cup has been delayed. 

Cricket West Indies stated that it is collaborating closely with the ICC and pertinent government agencies to guarantee the players' safe journey. The busiest airport in the world, Dubai International Airport, has also reported damage, leading to the suspension of flight operations across the Gulf region.

"Cricket West Indies (CWI) wishes to advise that the departure of the West Indies Senior Men's Team from India, following their exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, has been delayed due to international airspace restrictions," the board said in a statement.

"These restrictions are a direct result of the security threats posed by military action in the Gulf Region, which has impacted several international flight routes and required airlines to adjust scheduled services for safety reasons. CWI appreciates the understanding and concern of our fans, families, and stakeholders during this time,” the statement further read.
