“How will you play a cricket match with Pakistan?” - AIMIM chief Owaisi questions government

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has revealed his discomfort with watching the Asia Cup 2025 encounter between India and Pakistan, scheduled to take place on September 14.

Notably, a few days back, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) revealed the fixtures for the much-awaited Asia Cup 2025 campaign, with the arch-rivals taking on each other in September. Moreover, they would clash twice if they meet again in the Super Four stage of the same competition.

Speaking at the special discussion on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, Mr Owaisi said that his conscience won't allow him to watch the India-Pakistan match in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 campaign. 

"When Pakistan's aircraft cannot come into our airspace, their boat cannot come into our water, trade has ended, how will you play a cricket match with Pakistan? When we are not giving water, we are stopping 80 per cent of Pakistan's water, saying that blood and water will not flow, you will play a cricket match," Owaisi said.

"My conscience does not allow me to watch that match," asserted the Hyderabad MP, who has also been part of the government's outreach initiative following Operation Sindoor. Speaking on the floor of Lok Sabha, he asked if "the government has the courage to call those 25 dead people and say that we took revenge in Operation Sindoor and now you watch the Pakistan match,” he added.

It’s important to note that a total of eight nations will lock horns in the Asia Cup 2025 season, starting on September 9. Both India and Pakistan have chances of meeting against each other three times if they make it to the Super Four stage and grand finale.

Also, most recently, the India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, pulled out of their fixture against the Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends 2025 campaign due to ongoing geopolitical situation.
