Mumbai Indians suffered their consecutive loss of the IPL 2025 season after their 36-run defeat to the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, March 29. Their first loss of the season came against the Chennai Super Kings.
Attending the post-match press conference, pacer Trent Boult has opened up on the team’s poor loss to the Titans. He stated that the opposition had better gameplay and tactics, which was the reason behind the defeat.
“Good tactics from the opposition. If you have those options to do that, it obviously makes sense, but I don't think we'll be using it as an excuse. There are players in our team that have played all over the country on all different types of wickets. So, in all honesty, just an off game tonight, I thought they [GT] scrapped their way to a good total and they showed us how to bowl on that wicket. So full credit to them,” he said at the post-match press conference.
Though Gujarat Titans came up with a slow and sluggish surface to contain Mumbai Indians, Boult asserted that it wouldn’t be an excuse for them. He added that his team didn’t adjust nicely to the conditions.
“I think it was just good thinking of using home tactics to your advantage. Obviously, there should be an advantage for the home team. But like I said, not an excuse from our point of view. We understood the wicket was black soil and I don't think we just didn't adjust nicely enough,” Boult stated.
Furthermore, Boult added that the MI side was a bit off on the field at the boundary line. Also, he stated that the bowlers conceded 20 to 30 more runs. Nevertheless, he and his team are looking forward to the next game against KKR on Monday, March 31.
“I think the fielding is a part of the game that can never be excused. I think we're a little bit off the field. Take a catch there on the boundary. Save a couple of boundaries. You know, there's maybe 20 or 30 runs there. So, yeah, time to move on and look forward to doing that,” Boult concluded.
