Mike Hesson, who was part of the RCB set-up previously, feels that the current Bangalore squad doesn’t have the capability to make it to the playoffs in the IPL 2025 season, taking into the consideration depth of other teams.
Notably, the RCB think-tank team has made a lot of changes to their squad in the recently concluded IPL 2025 mega auction. Rajat Patidar, the top-order batter, is set to lead the franchise in the IPL 2025 season.
“So, in 2025, I look at the teams, at the strengths, and I look at the gaps that are in that team, likely more so around the depth of it. Instead of hand on heart, hand on head, I look at it and I genuinely can’t see RCB making a push for the playoffs, unfortunately, this year. That’s just observing the facts and the depth of the other teams,” Hesson said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, Hesson stated that RCB is going to end at the ninth spot this season. It’s important to note that the RCB franchise has made some important changes to strengthen its squad compared to previous editions.
“I am considering whether they are going to be a kind of sixth or seventh or a fraction below in terms of the power of the other teams. This is going to be unpopular, I know. But it is from my brain, not my heart. And I believe RCB are going to end this season ninth,” Hesson added.
RCB’s best years came in 2011 and 2016 when they advanced to the finals but got defeated by CSK and SRH respectively. In IPL 2024, they bagged six consecutive wins to make it to the playoffs, only to get eliminated by Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator.
