Former Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, is raring to go in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Namibia, and South Africa next year. However, by the time the World Cup arrives, Rohit would be 40.
It’s important to note that the Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, failed to secure the silverware in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at home after losing to Australia in the grand finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Speaking at an exclusive event hosted by DP World, Rohit spoke about his main goal of winning the World Cup for his country, adding that the ICC ODI World Cup was the pinnacle of the game when he was growing up.
"I will definitely want to go out there & win the World Cup for my country, that is something that I've always looked upon, I've grown up watching this 50-over WC," Rohit said during a DP World event.
"There was no T20 WC, no IPL, no WTC back then and that was the pinnacle of Cricket which used to happen every four years so there was desperation, there was so much weight for that one trophy - I really want that trophy so I'm gonna try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it," he added.
It’s worth noting that Rohit and his colleague Virat Kohli announced their retirements from Tests and T20Is to keep themselves fit for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup next year. Since the duo is playing only one format, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to demote them from Grade A+ to Grade B in the newly announced central contracts for the 2025-26 season.
