In the newly released ICC Test rankings, the newly appointed Indian Test captain Shubman Gill, who had poor returns at Lord’s, slipped from No.6 to No.9. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant, the keeper-batter, also slipped one spot to the eighth rank despite his 74-run knock in the first innings.
Moreover, the former England skipper Joe Root has reclaimed his top spot after initially being displaced by his teammate and England middle-order batter Harry Brook after the second Test in Birmingham.
It’s important to note that Root scored an impressive 104-run knock in the first innings and smacked 40 runs in the second innings of the Lord’s Test as his side defeated India by 22 runs to go 2-1 up in the five-match series.
Subsequently, Brook, who had scores of 11 and 23 in the third Test, slipped down to the third rank in the updated standings with the former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson climbing up to the second rank.
KL Rahul, the Indian opening batter with scores of 100 and 39, moved five spots up to the 35th rank while Ravindra Jadeja, who scored fifties in both innings of the Lord’s Test, moved up to the 34th spot.
Also, the former Australian captain Steve Smith displaced Yashasvi Jaiswal to the fourth rank after he scored 48 runs in the first innings of the pink ball Test against West Indies in Kingston. It’s worth noting that Jaiswal could score only 13 and 0 against England in the third Test.
Moving further to the bowling rankings in Tests, the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate at the pole position with his 15 five-wicket hauls in Tests. On the other hand, Aussie pacer Scott Boland, who pocketed six wickets, including a hat-trick against the West Indies in the pink-ball Test, rocketed six places to the sixth rank.
Subsequently, the Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who had the figures of 6/9 in the fourth innings of the pink ball Test against West Indies, continues to be at No. 10.
