New Zealand are yet again ready to rock in yet another ICC event, this time the Champions Trophy, set to be played in Pakistan from February 19. The BlackCaps named the 15-member squad for the showpiece event naming Mitchell Santner the captain. He took over from Kane Williamson in white-ball formats and was officially appointed at the helm in December 2024.

As far as their squad is concerned, the Kiwis have picked four batters including two wicket-keepers, seven all-rounders and four specialist fast bowlers. Decon Conway and Tom Latham are the wicketkeeper-batters while Kane Williamson and Will Young are two of the top three in their line-up.

Among all-rounders, apart from skipper Santner, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, and Michael Bracewell seem certain to be in the playing XI as of now. However, Ravindra is under injury cloud after the ball hit him in the face during the opening game of the ongoing tri-series clash against Pakistan.

Also among four fast bowlers, Lockie Ferguson is also nursing a hamstring injury now. He sustained the injury during the first qualifier of ILT20 last week and for now, is in doubt for the Champions Trophy.

Matt Henry, Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears are the other three fast bowlers in the squad and only two among them are expected to get a chance in the XI.

New Zealand have been grouped with India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy. They will start their campaign on the opening day of the tournament on February 19 against hosts Pakistan in Karachi. They will next face Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 24 before taking a long flight to Dubai to face Rohit Sharma-led India on March 2.

It remains to be seen if the Kiwis will be able to make it to the semifinals of the tournament.
