Two South African ICC World Test Championship winners, Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram, as well as one Sri Lankan player, Pathum Nissanka, were named the International Cricket Council's nominees for the June 2025 ICC Player of the Month Award on July 7. Both Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada were instrumental in South Africa's victory over Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) last month. However, everyone was impressed by Sri Lanka's reliable opener Pathum Nissanka's steady performances last month.
The highlights of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final were Markram and Rabada, but Nissanka outperformed the others thanks to his excellent play in the two-Test series against Bangladesh. Performances during South Africa's tour of the West Indies serve as the main basis for the women's shortlist.
Players of the Month Award Nominees List:
Aiden Markram (South Africa):
In the ICC WTC Final against Australia at Lord's, the 30-year-old opening batsman was named Player of the Match, helping South Africa win their first ICC championship since the Champions Trophy in 1998.
Kagiso Rabada (South Africa):
In the WTC Final, Rabada took nine wickets at an average of 12.22, with scores of five for 51 and four for 59.
Pathum Nissanka (Sri Lanka):
In the drawn first Test in Galle, the 27-year-old opener knocked up 187 and was part of a crucial second wicket stand with Dinesh Chandimal, setting the stage for a massive first innings score.
ICC Players of the Month Award Nominees Women:
Tazmin Brits (South Africa):
The South African opener, who played well in both ODIs and T20Is, had an unforgettable Caribbean tour. In three ODIs, she amassed 184 runs at a strike rate of 87.61, including a final-game 101 off 91 balls.
Hayley Matthews (West Indies):
In the three ODIs against South Africa, the West Indies captain amassed 104 runs, including a half-century in the third game. She contributed four wickets as well.
Afy Fletcher(West Indies):
The 38-year-old leg-spinner finished with nine ODI wickets in June, including one in an earlier series in England, and was the top wicket-taker in both the ODI and T20I series against South Africa.
