Team India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has stated that the workload management debate is for the fast bowlers and will not be a major issue for the batters. Notably, Gill has been pretty busy with his work schedule since the start of this year.

When asked by a reporter about the Indian Test captain Gill’s workload management, Kotak was quick to state that batters usually take a mental break when they feel they have played a lot of cricket.

"I don't know how you look at workload management, but generally we do it for bowlers, mainly fast bowlers. When it comes to batsmen, only if they mentally feel that cricket has become too much for them does it become a concern," Kotak said while speaking to the media.

Since the start of the ongoing calendar year, Gill has been pretty busy across different formats. While he was part of the ODI squad against England in February, he was later part of the ICC Champions Trophy squad, which India went on to win successfully.

Later, he took part in the IPL 2025 season for the Gujarat Titans, leading the franchise. Moreover, he went on to lead the Indian Test team in the five-match Test series to a series-levelling scoreline of 2-2.

On the other hand, Gill has been elevated as the new Indian vice-captain in the Indian T20I squad for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign. He started off the showpiece event with an unbeaten 20-run knock off nine balls against the hosts, the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, the workload management debate has become a talking point after the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah missed two out of the five Tests against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to manage his workload.
