Indian Fast Bowler Varun Aaron Retires from Professional Cricket!

Varun Aaron, famed for his fierce pace and tenacity in the face of numerous ailments, has announced his retirement from cricket. From 150kph thunderbolts to an IPL triumph with the Gujarat Titans, his career exemplified perseverance and passion.

Varun Aaron, an Indian bowler, has formally announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 20-year career. After retiring from red-ball cricket at the end of the 2023-24 Indian domestic season, Aaron officially resigned from representative cricket following Jharkhand's elimination from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, when he appeared in four matches and took three wickets at an average of 53.33.

Aaron broke the announcement on Instagram, praising the sport that influenced his life and the support system that helped him overcome countless obstacles. His ability to bowl at a high pace gained him a position in the national team, where he played nine Tests and nine One-Day Internationals, taking 29 wickets. Despite a promising start, his international career was cut short owing to repeated injuries.

Varun shared on Instagram, "For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast. Today, with immense gratitude, I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket. Fast bowling has been my first love, and though I step off the field, it will always be a part of who I am.

He added, "Over the years, I've had to push both my physical and mental limits to recover from numerous career-threatening injuries, having to come back time and again, this was only possible thanks to the relentless dedication of the physios, trainers, and coaches at the National Cricket Academy." In domestic cricket, Aaron appeared in 88 List A matches, taking 141 wickets at an average of 26.47 and an economy rate of 5.44. In T20s, he took 93 wickets in 95 games, with an 8.53 economy rate. The Bihar native made his Test debut against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium in November 2011 and played his final Test against South Africa in Bengaluru in 2015. His ODI debut came against England in October 2011, and his last outing in the format was against Sri Lanka in November 2014.
