India’s probable Test squad for the West Indies series

While the Indian players are busy with the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign currently, they will next take on the West Indies in the two-match Test series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The two-match Test series is scheduled to start on Thursday, October 2. The Indian squad is expected to be announced pretty soon by the Indian selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar. On that note, let’s take a look at the predicted Indian squad for the West Indies Test series.

Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be in contention for the Test squad. However, selectors might rest the Indian pace spearhead Bumrah to manage his workload.

Meanwhile, Axar Patel has not played Test cricket since February 2024, and it remains to be seen whether he is still in the management’s plans. Gill and Kuldeep, however, are almost certain to be selected.

On the other hand, Karun Nair, who made a comeback to Test cricket after more than eight years during India’s recent tour of England, might not be retained in the squad. With players like Devdutt Padikkal, who impressed with a 150-run knock for India A against Australia A, and Nitish Kumar Reddy regaining full fitness, Nair might be dropped from the squad.

Rishabh Pant will miss the series as he continues his foot recovery. Dhruv Jurel is expected to retain his place as the first-choice wicketkeeper, with Naryanan Jagadeesan being the backup keeper. Shreyas Iyer, who has taken a break from red-ball cricket to recover from his long-troubled back, is unavailable.
