IPL 2025: 3 Areas of concern for RR ahead of the season

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) had done the hard yards before the IPL 2025 mega auction by retaining six players from their 2024 squad. 

They made some smart acquisitions in the IPL 2025 auction but there are some areas of concern that the Royals have left a lot to be desired. 

On that note, let’s take a look at three such areas of concern:

1. Lack of quality backups

Rajasthan Royals have a solid first XI with six of their retentions forming the core. However, in case of any injuries or loss of form, the Royals don’t have much to fall back on. 

They will be hopeful that there will be no injuries to their retained stars and that there will be enough left in the tank by the end of the season. However, if there are any injuries, the Royals could see themselves out of depth in some areas.

2. Lack of batting depth

The Rajasthan Royals had a recurring issue in the previous editions of the IPL and that was the batting depth issue. RR didn’t bat deep and that cost them a lot of games. While they have signed all-rounder Wanindu Hasaraanga, they might once again encounter a situation where their bowlers cannot bat barring Jofra Archer. 

3. Lack of quality Indian spinner

RR had the Indian duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal in the past three seasons and they dominated the middle-overs, picking up a whole host of wickets. This time around, the Royals have invested in foreign spinners like Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. 

In the batting department, the Royals are backing their Indian contingent to get the job done and do not have overseas quality apart from Hemyer to fall back on. Due to the lack of a quality Indian spinner, the Royals may need to play the Sri Lankan duo, thereby blocking two of the four overseas spots. This gives them a lack of flexibility.
