IPL 2025: 3 reasons why PBKS will not lift the title

Thanks to some exceptional individual performances and an aggressive style of cricket, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have advanced to the IPL 2025 playoffs. The team has pulled off a few thrilling victories, and their top order has been in outstanding form. This is their first playoff qualification since IPL 2014.

But despite the momentum, doubts remain about their ability to go all the way. PBKS face key challenges—middle-order inconsistency and lack of high-pressure experience—that could derail their title hopes.

Today we take a look at 3 reasons why PBKS might not win the IPL 2025 title, despite such a dominating performance in the tournament.

Here are the 3 reasons why PBKS will not lift the IPL 2025 title:

1. Inconsistent Middle Order Despite On-Fire Openers

PBKS’s middle order has struggled to complement a dominant top order featuring Shreyas Iyer (435 runs at 174.69), Prabhsimran Singh (458 runs at 171.58), and Priyansh Arya (356 runs at 190.86).

Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis have failed to deliver consistently—Inglis has only 92 runs in 6 matches, and Stoinis has made just occasional contributions. This imbalance increases pressure on the top order and leaves the team exposed during crunch moments.

2. Lack of Reliable Spinners in the Middle Overs

Despite a league-best powerplay batting rate (10.67), PBKS have struggled with their bowling—especially in the middle overs. Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen have started strong, but a lack of wickets in the middle allows opposition teams to build momentum.

Spin has been a weak point. Yuzvendra Chahal has performed well, but hasn’t received enough support after the powerplay. This gap forces pressure onto death overs, often leading to high-scoring finishes against them.

3. Inexperienced Squad in IPL Playoff Situations

While captain Shreyas Iyer will make his fourth playoff appearance, most PBKS players lack experience in knockout matches. Talents like Priyansh Arya and Shashank Singh have impressed but remain untested under playoff pressure.
