Chennai Super Kings ended the IPL 2025 season with the wooden spoon, winning four games and losing 10 in 14 contests. Interestingly, this was the first time CSK ended at the bottom spot in the standings in the league’s history.
Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing season that CSK has ever had in IPL history. Surprisingly, they made numerous blunders at the auction table in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, which resulted in CSK losing the plot right from the start of the season.
While many players failed to create an impact this season for CSK, a few players couldn’t live up to the expectations at all. On that note, let’s take a look at the three worst signings by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
3 Worst signings by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025
1. Vijay Shankar
After being part of the Gujarat Titans set-up in the past three IPL seasons, Tamil Nadu all-rounder joined the Chennai Super Kings franchise for the IPL 2025 season at the price of INR 1.2 Crore in the Mega Auction.
In the IPL 2025 season, he could score only 118 runs from five innings at an average of 39.33 and a strike rate of 129.67, with 69* being his highest score of the season. Interestingly, he could only play six games this season.
2. Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda, who was part of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise in the past three seasons, joined the CSK set-up at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with the price of INR 1.7 Crore to take up the top and middle-order batting duties.
However, he disappointed completely, scoring only 31 runs from five innings at an average of 6.20 and a strike rate of 75.60. Interestingly, he scored only 145 runs from nine innings in the IPL 2024 season before being released by LSG.
3. Rahul Tripathi
Top-order batter Rahul Tripathi, who was part of the SRH franchise in the past three IPL editions, was picked by the CSK franchise for a whopping price of INR 3.4 Crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Unfortunately, he failed to create a significant impact, scoring only 55 runs from five innings at an average of 11 and a strike rate of 96.49. Most interestingly, Ruturaj Gaikwad came down the order to compensate Tripathi as an opener, which backfired for the franchise.
