IPL 2025: 3 Worst signings by Delhi Capitals (DC)

Delhi Capitals are one of the few franchises that are yet to win an IPL title in the league’s history. After making a lot of choppings and changes to their squad for the IPL 2025 season, they failed to make it to the playoffs.

The Capitals’ story was a rollercoaster ride as they started the season pretty well, with five victories in their first six games of the season. However, they lost the plot since then, winning only two games in their next eight games to end their campaign in the fifth rank eventually.

While the DC franchise bagged the services of a few key players like KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, Mohit Sharma, and other notable names at the mega auction, some lived up to the expectations, while others couldn't create a significant impact.

On that note, let’s take a look at the three worst signings by Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

3 Worst signings by Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025

1. Jake Fraser McGurk

Delhi Capitals' top-order batter from Australia, Jake Fraser McGurk, turned out to be a nightmare for the team management as he could score only 55 runs from six innings at an average of 9.16, with his best score being 38 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Interestingly, McGurk joined the Capitals franchise in the IPL 2024 season, replacing Lungi Ngidi. He went on to score 330 runs from nine innings with four half-centuries. However, he was released ahead of the mega auction.

Surprisingly, the Delhi Capitals think tank team repurchased him at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, at a whopping price of INR 9 Crore. Unfortunately, he pulled out of the campaign after the IPL 2025 got suspended mid-way. Later, DC had to replace him with Mustafizur Rahman.

2. Mohit Sharma

Delhi Capitals’ pacer Mohit Sharma, who was with the Gujarat Titans earlier, ended the IPL 2023 season as the second-highest wicket-taker, scalping 27 wickets from 13 games. Later in IPL 2024, he was the highest wicket-taker for the Titans, scalping 13 wickets from 12 games.

However, Titans had to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, where he was roped in by the Delhi Capitals franchise for INR 2.2 Crore, courtesy of his variations and slower deliveries in the death overs.

However, his signing turned out to be an unfortunate one for the Capitals as he managed to pick only two wickets from eight innings at an average of 128.5 and an economy of 10.28. His two wickets came against SRH and RCB.

3. T Natarajan

Tamil Nadu pacer T Natarajan, who was part of the SRH line-up from 2020, scalped 65 wickets for the Hyderabad-based franchise from 55 games. He ended the IPL 2024 season with 19 wickets from 14 innings, playing a crucial role in propelling SRH to the grand finale.

Interestingly, he achieved his career-best figures of 4/19 against the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 season before being released by SRH. The Capitals roped in his services in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction at a whopping INR 10.75 Crore.

Unfortunately, he was warming the bench for the major part of the season despite being fit. However, when he got a chance to create an impact, he failed to scalp a wicket in one game he got to play, conceding 49 runs in only three overs against the Titans.
