High hopes and fierce competition greeted the 2025 Indian Premier League season, as each team worked to hone its roster. However, several signings turned out to be costly mistakes, and not all of them lived up to the hype.
One of the most successful teams in IPL history, the Mumbai Indians, came under fire for some of their poor decisions. The poor performance of these acquisitions raised concerns about long-term planning and strategy.
Here are the 3 worst signings by the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025:
1. Mujeeb Ur Rahman
After replacing the injured Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, Mujeeb Ur Rahman found it difficult to create an impression. After picking 1/28 in two overs in his lone game, he warmed the bench for the remainder of the tournament.
Despite his T20 cricket experience, Mitchell Santner's dominance as the main spinner meant that Mujeeb was unable to establish himself as one of MI's top wicket-takers. Rahman's failure to produce innovations created a gap in MI's spin division, leaving them to try out Vignesh Puthur and then rely on Will Jacks as a second spinner.
2. Corbin Bosch
Also unimpressive was Corbin Bosch, who was brought in to take Lizaad Williams' spot due to injury. Since he was previously under contract with the PSL team, Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 10 and had to issue an apology for selecting the IPL over the PSL, his signing provoked a major uproar.
Bosch made a strong debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, but he was unable to secure a spot in the starting lineup. He scored 47 runs with a high of 32 and took one wicket in three games. He was replaced in the middle of the season due to his inability to make any noteworthy contributions with the bat or the ball, underscoring the poor decision made in his acquisition.
3. Arjun Tendulkar
Arjun Tendulkar was picked in the IPL 2025 auction as a last-minute thought. While it was not said aloud, MI only picked Arjun as a courtesy to his legendary father, Sachin Tendulkar, who is also the mentor of the Mumbai Indians team. Arjun didn’t play a game for MI in the IPL 2025 and was mostly seen sitting in the dressing room.
