IPL 2025: 3 Worst signings by Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural IPL season champions, continue to find their way to lift their second title as they conclude the IPL 2025 season at the ninth rank in the standings with only four wins in the league stage.

While RR had two skippers in Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag in the IPL 2025 season, they managed to win only two games in the first half of the season. In the second half of the league phase, they managed to bag another two wins, concluding their inconsistent season.

At the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, RR had bought in players like Jofra Archer, Tushar Deshpande, Wanindu Hasaranga, and other key players. While a few of them lived up to expectations, others failed to create a significant impact.

On that note, let’s take a look at the three worst signings by the Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

3 Worst signings by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2025

1. Kumar Kartikeya

Left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya, who was part of the Mumbai Indians set-up in the IPL 2023 and IPL 2024 editions, was roped in by the Royals at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction for the price of INR 30 Lakh.

In IPL 2023, he managed to scalp only five wickets from eight games at an average of 45.4. Later in IPL 2024, he didn't get a game throughout the season before being released by the Mumbai-based franchise.

In the IPL 2025 season, the spinner managed to get four games, but he could scalp only two wickets at an average of 39 and an economy of 9.75, bowling only eight overs from those four innings.

2. Shimron Hetmyer

Caribbean dashing batter Shimron Hetmyer, who was part of the Rajasthan Royals set-up since IPL 2022, failed to live up to expectations in the last two seasons. With him scoring only 113 runs from nine innings in IPL 2024, he was released ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

However, at the mega auction, Hetmyer was roped in yet again for  INR 11 Crore by the Royals. His inconsistent form continued in the IPL 2025 season as well, as he managed to score 239 runs from 13 innings at an average of 21.72.

Interestingly, the Royals suffered many close losses that were supposed to be won by the team. Unfortunately, Hetmyer was at the crease in multiple games, but failed to take his side home even when single-digit targets were needed to chase in the last over.

3. Fazalhaq Farooqi

The right-arm Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi was roped in by the Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction for the price of INR 2 Crore. However, the seamer, known for his accurate yorkers and for swinging the ball, failed to create an impact.

Earlier in the IPL 2022 and IPL 2023 seasons, he was part of the Hyderabad set-up, scalping six wickets from seven games. However, in IPL 2025, he failed to scalp a wicket despite playing five games and bowling 17 overs.

He was part of five games this season without picking up a wicket in 17 overs at an economy of 12.35, the worst among all the Royals’ bowlers in IPL 2025.
