IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans' best XI of the season

Gujarat Titans’ (GT) campaign in IPL 2025 came to an end in the Eliminator at Mullanpur on 30 May, as Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated them by 20 runs. GT finished the league stage in third place with 18 points from 14 games and a net run rate of +0.254. At one stage, they were at the top of the table and looked all set to play in Qualifier 1.

However, back-to-back defeats in their last two league games—against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)—derailed their campaign and pushed them down to third.

Looking at GT’s best XI from the season, their top three batters would be Sai Sudharsan (759 runs in 15 innings), captain Shubman Gill (650 in 15 innings), and wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler (538 in 13 innings). Sudharsan is still leading the Orange Cap race, while Gill impressed as captain throughout the season.

He led from the front with 650 runs and took the team to the playoffs. At number three, Buttler was excellent in the dual role of batter and keeper. However, he missed the playoffs due to international duties in England, which left a big gap in GT’s lineup.

As an impact substitute, Sherfane Rutherford did well with the chances he got, scoring 291 runs in 13 games. GT's top three batted so well that their middle-order batters—Shahrukh Khan, Washington Sundar, and Rahul Tewatia—didn’t get enough chances to consistently show their abilities.

Rashid Khan, one of their key retained players, had a disappointing all-round season. With the bat, he couldn’t produce meaningful cameos, and with the ball, he managed only nine wickets in 15 matches. Gerald Coetzee played just four games, but based on his potential and late contributions, he found a place in the best XI.

R Sai Kishore had a standout season, picking up 19 wickets in 15 innings, and is currently fifth on the Purple Cap list. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna is leading the race for the Purple Cap with 25 wickets in 15 games. Mohammed Siraj started the tournament well but couldn’t maintain that form. He finished with 16 wickets in 15 games.
