IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians' best XI of the season

Mumbai Indians (MI) got knocked out of Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025 as Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated them by five wickets. Despite kicking off the tournament badly, Hardik Pandya’s side made a stunning comeback as they finished in the fourth spot of the points table after the league stage with 16 points in 14 games, with a net run rate of +1.142.

In the Eliminator, they knocked out the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Mullanpur and qualified for Qualifier 2. But in Ahmedabad on 1 June, PBKS defeated them, and their fans were left heartbroken.

MI might be the most affected franchise before the playoffs, as their three overseas players—Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch, and Will Jacks—left the squad due to their international commitments.

Ryan Rickelton (388 in 14 innings) would be the opener alongside their former skipper Rohit Sharma (418 in 15 innings) in the best XI of this season. Will Jacks played brilliantly as the tournament progressed, finishing with 233 runs in 11 innings and six wickets in eight innings.

Suryakumar Yadav was their best and most consistent performer, finishing second in the Orange Cap list as of now, scoring 717 runs in 16 innings. Tilak Varma had a mediocre season compared to his capability, scoring 343 in 13 innings.

Expectations were a bit higher from the skipper, Hardik Pandya, but with added responsibility, he finished with 224 runs in 12 innings and 14 wickets in 14 innings. Naman Dhir was excellent down the order throughout the season, as he scored 252 in 12 innings with a strike rate of 182.60.

Mitchell Santner had a decent season with 10 wickets, while their two pacers, Trent Boult (22 wickets in 16 innings, third so far in the Purple Cap race) and Jasprit Bumrah (18 wickets in 12 innings), were outstanding.

Ashwani Kumar, the youngster, impressed in his seven appearances, taking 11 wickets. Corbin Bosch, the Protea all-rounder, should be the impact sub as he looked impressive in his three outings.
