IPL 2025: Rishabh Pant fined INR 30 Lakh after RCB game

On Tuesday, May 27, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during the last league game of the IPL 2025 season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Interestingly, Pant was fined earlier this season on two other occasions. With this being his third offence of the season, he was fined INR 30 Lakh. Meanwhile, the other members of the playing XI, including the impact player, were each fined either INR 12 lakh or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.

“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the IPL official statement read.

“As it was LSG's third offence of the season - the first and second were on April 5 and April 26 respectively - under the IPL's code of conduct relating to over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 30 lakh,” the statement added.

It’s important to note that despite this being Pant’s third offence of the season, he will not be suspended for a game, as was the case until the last edition of the IPL. At the start of the IPL 2025 season, the BCCI and IPL Governing Council made changes to the rule, stating that there will be no more suspensions on captains despite facing multiple offences.

Interestingly, Hardik Pandya was suspended for a game in the Mumbai Indians’ season opener this season after he was found guilty three times for a slow-over rate last season, which was carried forward from the last edition of the IPL.
