Shreyas Iyer & Hardik Pandya slapped with fines after Qualifier 2

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya were slapped with fines due to a slow-over rate offence in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing IPL 2025 season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

While rain interrupted the start of the game as the full 40-over game started two hours later, and both sides came into the field at 9:45 PM IST, with the game supposed to end by 12:55 AM IST. However, it went on to end at around 1:45 AM IST. Moreover, both sides were penalised with four fielders outside the circle in the death overs.

“Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during Qualifier 2 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad,” the IPL statement read.

“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the statement continued.

“Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has also been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate. As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 Lakh,” it added.

“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser, the statement concluded.

Punjab Kings will next take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the grand finale of the IPL 2025 season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
