Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showed a lot of fight in their last game but suffered yet another loss this season, going down to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by just two runs. CSK remain at the bottom of the table with only four points from 11 games and a net run rate of -1.117. 

With three more games to go, CSK fans will be hoping for their team to finish the season with a few wins. Their next clash is against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 7 May in Kolkata. KKR are currently in seventh place with nine points from 10 games and a net run rate of +0.271.

CSK’s plan of using two young talents at the top has been working well, given the kind of performances they’ve put up so far. Ayush Mhatre was superb with his 94-run knock in the last game against RCB. Shaik Rasheed has also played the perfect supporting role alongside him.

Sam Curran is expected to continue at number three, with Ravindra Jadeja at number four. Against RCB, Jadeja remained not out but unfortunately couldn’t take CSK over the line. Dewald Brevis is expected to make a strong comeback after getting out for a golden duck in the previous match.

MS Dhoni will once again be a batter to watch for his destructive cameos in the lower order. It could also be one of the last big opportunities for Deepak Hooda, who has struggled badly this season.

The three main pacers for CSK are likely to be Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed, and Matheesha Pathirana. Noor Ahmad will lead the spin department, while Shivam Dube is expected to be used as the Impact Player.

This KKR vs CSK rivalry has been one of the fiercest contests in the history of the competition. In 30 IPL matches so far, CSK have won 19 times, while KKR have secured 11 victories. 

In the reverse fixture earlier this season, KKR defeated CSK by eight wickets. That match saw CSK post 103/9 in 20 overs—their lowest-ever total against KKR. Hence, all eyes will be on KKR to know whether they can complete a league double this season.
