Delhi Capitals’ (DC) IPL 2025 playoff hopes were crushed in their last game, when they lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) by 59 runs in Mumbai. After this defeat, DC are now in fifth place with 13 points from 13 games and a net run rate of -0.019.

At one stage, DC were among the favourites to qualify for the playoffs. But they lost momentum in the last few games. As a result, they are now out of the playoff race with one match left in the league stage.

They will finish their season by facing Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 24 May in Jaipur. PBKS are in third place with 17 points from 12 games and a net run rate of +0.389. They have already secured a spot in the playoffs.

Axar Patel, their regular skipper, missed the last game against MI as he was down with a bad flu. If he is not fit enough to play, then Faf du Plessis is likely to lead again.

He and KL Rahul will open the innings, while Abishek Porel will bat at number three. The middle order will include batters like Sameer Rizvi, Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, and Tristan Stubbs.

It will be surprising if KL Rahul is again used as the impact substitute. The four pacers will be Dushmantha Chameera, Madhav Tiwari, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mukesh Kumar. Kuldeep Yadav will be their main spinner.
