Three players will not be available for MI during the playoffs — South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch, and England’s Will Jacks. Both Rickelton and Bosch will join the South Africa squad as they prepare for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final against Australia at Lord’s, scheduled from 11 to 15 June. 

Jacks will join the England squad for their upcoming home series against the West Indies. Hence, it is expected that Rohit Sharma will open the innings with Jonny Bairstow, who has been named as the replacement for Will Jacks. At number three, Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka is expected to get a chance, having come in as the replacement for Bosch. 

Richard Gleeson has replaced Rickelton, but he is not expected to be included in the playing XI. The middle-order batters will be Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, skipper Hardik Pandya, and Naman Dhir. Santner will be the spin-bowling option, while the pacers will be Chahar, Boult, and Bumrah. Karn Sharma or Ashwani Sharma could be used as the impact substitute.

GT and MI have faced each other in seven IPL matches so far. GT have won five times, while MI have managed to win on only two occasions. Even in the league stage of this season, MI suffered defeats in both encounters against GT.
