Punjab Kings (PBKS) had the chance to secure a direct entry into the IPL 2025 final by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur. However, they failed to do so and now have to play Qualifier 2 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on 1 June in Ahmedabad. 

MI are heading into this clash after defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator on 30 May. The winner of this clash will play against RCB in the final.

Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Josh Inglis (wk), Shreyas Iyer (capt), Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Azmatullah Omarzai, Harpreet Brar, Kyle Jamieson, Arshdeep Singh.

PBKS will stick with their opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, a combination that has been successful throughout the season. Josh Inglis will take up the role of wicketkeeper-batter, while skipper Shreyas Iyer is expected to bat at number four. 

Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh will be expected to deliver with the bat, as both have been crucial in the middle order. Marcus Stoinis and Azmatullah Omarzai will serve as the two pace-bowling all-rounders, while the other two pacers will be Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep has been excellent throughout this campaign.  

Harpreet Brar will lead the spin department. Vijaykumar Vyshak is expected to be the Impact Substitute as that will provide Iyer another pace-bowling option for him to utilise, especially in the death overs.

In 33 IPL matches so far, MI have won 17 times, while PBKS have emerged victorious on 15 occasions. One match has ended in a tie. In the league stage earlier this season, PBKS defeated MI by seven wickets. 

Even in the last five encounters between these two teams, PBKS hold the edge with three wins, while MI have won twice. Therefore, another enthralling contest awaits both fans in Ahmedabad.
