Who will play RCB in the Final if Qualifier 2 is washed out?

The stage is set at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, as Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 on 1 June. PBKS suffered a loss in Qualifier 1 at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Mullanpur, and as a result, RCB have already secured their place in the final.

Meanwhile, MI defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator in Mullanpur and knocked the 2022 IPL champions out of the competition. Now, the winner between PBKS and MI will face RCB on 3 June. However, ahead of this crucial clash, fans are concerned about a possible rain interruption.

According to the rules, if the match does not take place and gets abandoned due to rain, then PBKS will qualify for the final based on their higher position in the league table. PBKS finished the league stage at the top of the standings with 19 points in 14 games with a net run rat of +0.372, while MI ended in fourth place with 16 points in 14 games with a net run rate of +1.142.

Talking about the weather, according to Accuweather, there is currently no forecast for rain, and the temperature is expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius. Hence, for both MI and PBKS fans, it is encouraging news as the chances of witnessing a full match without any rain interruption remain high.

However, both teams have been missing some of their key players during the playoffs. For PBKS, South Africa’s Marco Jansen is unavailable as he has joined the Proteas squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final, which is scheduled to be played at Lord’s from 11 to 15 June.

MI, meanwhile, had to bring in three players — Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka — to replace South Africa’s Corbin Bosch, Ryan Rickelton, and England’s Will Jacks. Jacks is currently part of the home ODI series against West Indies, while both Rickelton and Bosch are in South Africa’s WTC 2025 final squad.

MI also handed their franchise debut caps to Bairstow and Gleeson in the Eliminator, and both players are expected to feature in Qualifier 2 as well.
