Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a thrilling win at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets in a rain-affected game. GT skipper Shubman Gill was named the Player of the Match for his 43-run knock and for taking three crucial catches.
After winning the toss, Gill asked the home side to bat first, and the decision turned out to be a good one as MI could only manage 155/8 in 20 overs. Will Jacks was their top scorer with 53 off 35 balls, well supported by Suryakumar Yadav’s 35 off 24.
In the end, Corbin Bosch chipped in with 27 off 22 to help MI reach that total. For GT, Sai Kishore bagged two wickets while Gerald Coetzee, Rashid Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Arshad Khan, and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket each.
Let’s take a look at GT’s Chase
In reply, GT had an early setback with Sai Sudharsan getting out cheaply. Then, Gill and Jos Buttler built a solid partnership, adding 72 runs for the second wicket. Buttler was dismissed for 30 off 27 balls. At number four, GT sent in Sherfane Rutherford as an impact sub. He smashed an unbeaten 26 off just 12 balls before rain interrupted the game.
At that stage, GT were 107/2 in 14 overs—eight runs ahead of the DLS score. After a break of about 20–25 minutes, play resumed, and MI bounced back strongly. They took four wickets in the next four overs while conceding just 25 runs. When rain interrupted again, GT were 132/6 in 18 overs—this time, five runs behind the DLS par score.
Eventually, the match restarted once more with a revised target of 147 in 19 overs. GT needed 15 runs off the final over. Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee came out to bat. Deepak Chahar was handed the ball, but he was put under pressure immediately—Tewatia smashed a four and Coetzee hit a six, followed by a no-ball.
On the fifth delivery, Chahar took Coetzee’s wicket, leaving GT needing one run off the final ball. Arshad Khan managed to sneak a single, but MI skipper Hardik Pandya had a chance to run him out with a direct hit and missed. GT held their nerve and sealed a dramatic win.
With this victory, GT climbed back to the top of the table with 16 points from 11 games and a net run rate of +0.793. MI, after the narrow defeat, are in fourth place with 14 points from 12 games and a net run rate of +1.156. GT will face Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi on 11 May, while MI’s next clash is against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala on the same day.
