Former India all-rounder and commentator Irfan Pathan has opened up on the no-handshake controversy between India and Pakistani players after the former’s seven-wicket win on Sunday, September 14, in Dubai.
Speaking to ANI at an event, Irfan Pathan has asserted that the Indian cricketers, the Indian cricket board, and the government of India are aligned. Moreover, he also weighed in on the no-handshake controversy, giving away his opinion.
"The cricketers, BCCI and the govt of India are aligned. Everything runs in the alignment of the situation and it is also an individual decision. Indian team is playing very well. All controversy is on one hand and the way the Indian team is moving ahead is on the other," Irfan Pathan said to ANI.
Notably, Salman Ali skipped the post-match presentation ceremony against India after the no-handshake controversy. Moreover, Pakistan also skipped the pre-match press conference before the UAE game.
While India is currently topping the points table in Group A, having qualified for the Super Four stage, Pakistan will take on the UAE on Wednesday, September 17 to know their journey ahead in the competition.
Pathan also heaped praise on the Odisha Pro T20 League being organized by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), adding that the tournament can be a stepping stone for young cricketers in the state and region.
"This will give opportunities to a lot of young talents. It will profit Odisha cricket a lot... I am hoping that a lot of players will reach the top level in this," Pathan stated.
The Odisha Pro T20 League is all set to commence on September 17, comprising six teams and 18 matches, with Pathan and Odisha's own Debashish Mohanty serving as Brand Ambassadors to the tournament.
