“It is frustrating” - Daniel Vettori opens up on SRH’s poor IPL 2025 season

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has revealed that the team’s lack of consistency was one of the key reasons behind the franchise’s disappointing season in IPL 2025. 

Notably, SRH finished the last season as the runners-up after losing to the eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the grand finale. However, in IPL 2025, they failed to live up to the expectations, winning only three games in 11 matches, to stage an early elimination.

"Obviously, it's disappointing. We came in with high hopes, but we haven't been consistent enough with our performances. We've spoken about not being able to put together a complete game, and today was shaping up to be one. It's frustrating we couldn't finish it, but that's the nature of cricket,” Vettori said at the post-match press conference.

In the must-win clash against the Delhi Capitals on Monday night, SRH restricted the opposition to 133/7 in 20 overs. However, just before the chase, heavy rain ruled out SRH’s playoff chances as both teams shared points.

Interestingly, in IPL 2024, SRH played aggressive cricket, putting up massive totals and chasing down big targets. However, this time around, they couldn’t replicate that form. Vettori felt the home conditions didn’t support them well.

"We're about assessing conditions, and I think this year, the conditions weren't as we expected. If you look at last year, there were a number of high-scoring games here, and these surfaces in particular have been a little bit different. It has been tricky, it hasn't been easy for the batters. All we've talked about is just assessing conditions and trying to read the game and understand what to do in certain situations. The guys are innately aggressive, but certainly this season has been about trying to establish what's required on the day,” he added.
