Jacob Bethell, an England swashbuckling batsman, discussed the lessons and influence he gained from playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the most recent IPL 2025 season alongside the legendary Virat Kohli.

Despite being unable to play in the playoffs due to international commitments, Bethell made a significant impact during the league stage, taking Phil Salt's place and forging a notable bond with Virat Kohli.

On his debut against the Delhi Capitals on April 27, the southpaw opened the batting with Virat Kohli and scored 12 runs off six balls. He did, however, make an impression in the next game, scoring a 55 off 33 balls with eight fours and two sixes. Within 10 overs, the opening pair accumulated 97 runs.

In England's recent 3-0 victory over the West Indies in the T20I series, Bethell, who amassed 85 runs at an average of 85 and a strike rate of 173.47 in three games, thanked Kohli for assisting him with various aspects of his game during the IPL.

The 21-year-old also said that it was remarkable to watch Kohli shifting gears during an innings, especially while chasing.

“It’s been great. Virat was unbelievable with helping me out, and even just the things he didn’t say to me personally, but just watching how he goes about training and how he approaches things. I especially like chasing in a T20 game. That was unbelievable to watch and unbelievable to see first hand, just how easily he is able to shift up and down the gears and is able to template an innings depending on what is needed,” Bethell told Sky Sports.

Jacob Bethell's career has gotten off to a strong start. To date, he has participated in 13 T20Is, 12 ODIs, and 3 Test matches. In the three forms, his averages are 52, 35.22, and 40.14, respectively. The Barbados native has been included in England's squad for the June 20 first Test match against India.
